Layla Hanfland is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a focus in Fiber Art. The start of their art journey began in Miami, Florida at New World School of the Arts. The inspiration for their pieces hinges on a prolific sketch book practice where images and text are recorded from their daily life. Their pieces incorporate a wide variety of processes including, fabric dying, weaving, image transfer, screen printing, discharge screen printing, collage, photography, knitting, mono printing, and crochet. More recent work focuses on experimentation with screen printing on fabric and paper using discharge, dye paste, metallic foil, and mono prints. The work does not focus on reproduction but rather one finished image.
Selected Exhibitions include Art Bash(2026), Prelude 5 (2025), Three (Out of) Four (2024), Young Artist Initiative: Interference (2023). Hanfland’s work, Smile You’re in Coral Gables, is exhibited permanently in the Miami Dade College art collection at New World School fo the Arts in Miami, FL.
